FAQs
The fundamental difference is the mechanism. Steroid creams work by suppressing your immune response — they tell your immune system to stand down, which stops the inflammation quickly. That’s why they work fast. But stop using them and the immune system rebounds, often overcompensating, and the flare returns worse than before. Over time, repeated use also thins the skin, reduces its natural barrier function, and creates a dependency cycle that is genuinely hard to break.
Snow Relief Cream uses ten classical Chinese herbal actives — Galla chinensis for astringency and antimicrobial action, Cortex phellodendri for anti-inflammatory effect, Cortex pseudolaricis for antifungal protection, among others. These work through natural herbal mechanisms: reducing inflammation, calming the immune response, and protecting compromised skin without switching the immune system off entirely. There is no dependency cycle because there is nothing in the formula that the skin becomes reliant on.
On stopping steroids: we do not recommend stopping abruptly. The transition works best gradually — using Snow Relief Cream where you would previously reach for steroid cream, reducing steroid frequency slowly, and working with your doctor on the pace. Many customers find they need steroid cream less and less as their skin stabilises.
Snow Relief Cream contains no alcohol and no synthetic antiseptic agents — the two things most responsible for the stinging sensation people associate with topical treatments on broken skin. The active base is the herbal extract complex itself, which is inherently less harsh than alcohol-based disinfectants or chemical preservative systems.
Galla chinensis has natural astringent properties that actually help protect open skin, and Cortex phellodendri has an anti-inflammatory action that begins reducing irritation on contact. For the majority of customers, application on broken or weeping skin is tolerable from the first use.
That said, a small number of people with severely broken lesions do experience a brief sensation on first application — usually mild and settling within seconds as the herbal actives take effect. If you are concerned, start by applying the cream to the skin around the affected area first for 1–2 days before applying directly to the open lesion. This lets your skin familiarise with the formula while the area is still being indirectly treated.
Snow Relief Cream is a topical, direct-contact formula — it does not need to be absorbed into the bloodstream or build up over weeks to take effect. Most customers report noticeable itch relief within the first application, with redness and swelling beginning to reduce within 24–48 hours of consistent use during a flare.
It is faster than gut-based approaches (which work systemically and take weeks) but more considered than steroid creams (which produce an almost immediate suppression). Think of it as working at the pace that nature intended: real anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial action through herbal mechanisms, without the forced suppression that causes rebound.
For severe, acute flares — particularly with secondary infection risk — using Snow Shield (the nano silver protective layer) before applying Snow Relief Cream maximises the antimicrobial protection and creates the best environment for the herbal actives to work in.
The caution about herbal products and daily use usually refers to high-potency concentrated herbs taken internally — where cumulative effect on the liver or kidneys is a concern. Topical herbal products like Snow Relief Cream work differently: they act locally at the skin surface and are not absorbed systemically in meaningful amounts.
The ten herbs in Snow Relief Cream — Galla chinensis, Cortex phellodendri, Cortex pseudolaricis, Typhonium, Radix stemonae, Rhizoma smilacis, Spina gleditiae, Septem stella gladium, Ilex, Fructus cnidii — have long traditions of topical use in TCM practice for skin conditions, without the accumulation risk associated with internal formulas.
Used as directed on intact or mildly affected skin, daily long-term use is safe. In fact, consistent use is how the formula works best — intermittent application during flares only addresses the symptom, while daily use on sensitive or at-risk areas helps maintain the skin environment that prevents flares from starting in the first place. The longer you use it, the more stable your skin becomes — the opposite of what happens with steroid creams.
Yes — and both are questions we actively encourage customers to ask, especially anyone who has previously encountered products that claimed to be “natural” but were later found to contain undisclosed steroids.
Snow Relief Cream has undergone independent laboratory testing confirming zero steroid content. This is not a brand claim — it is a documented test result that can be shared on request. The formulation lists ten declared herbal ingredients. There is nothing hidden in the formula.
They serve genuinely different purposes — understanding the difference makes it easy to know when you need one, the other, or both.
Snow Relief Cream is a response product. It addresses active inflammation — redness, itch, swelling, the acute discomfort of a flare. Apply it directly to the affected area when a flare is happening. It is not designed for broad daily moisturisation; it is designed to calm the immune overreaction at the skin surface and protect against secondary infection.
Ovine Collagen Lotion is a maintenance and repair product. It works best on skin that is not actively inflamed — rebuilding the structural barrier daily so flares become less frequent and the skin becomes more resilient over time. It is your everyday product, applied broadly morning and night.
Used together, the sequence matters: Snow Relief Cream goes on first to active areas (calming the fire), then Collagen Lotion goes on over the full area (beginning the repair). Once a flare subsides, you transition to Collagen Lotion as your daily product and keep Snow Relief Cream for when a flare starts again. Snow Cream handles today’s problem. Collagen Lotion reduces how often today’s problem happens.
